Clarke More Than Justified Selection.
There were several raised eyebrows and many questions from the media guys at Clones on Saturday when Tyrone took to the field with a tall, athletic looking number three running on to the park. Many thought that in spite of all the stories going around that Justin Mc Mahon had made a remarkable recovery and had been declared fit for the game. Of course we were able to put them right and explain that it was indeed an Omagh man alright only this time it was Conor Clarke who was making his senior championship debut.
It appeared to be a bit of a gamble by Mickey Harte but not for the first time the manager’s faith in his players paid off as young Clarke produced an excellent display as he coped with the threat of Michael Murphy. Indeed the full back was one of Tyrone’s best players on the day and capped his performance with a super first half point from distance. Sadly for Conor it was not enough to help his team to victory but he will take a lot from his performance and the experience he gained marking Murphy will stand to him in the future.
