The game of Hurling in Tyrone has had somewhat of a rollercoaster existence over the last few decades. More recently the outlook for Hurling has seen somewhat of an upward increase in popularity and that trend looks certain to continue with the news that Tipperary’s All Ireland winning Hurling Manager Liam Sheedy has been appointed as mentor for the development of Hurling in Tyrone.

County Board Chairman Ciaran McLaughlin stated that “Liam Sheedy’s appointment is a massive boost for Tyrone Hurling. Having talked to Liam I know he really wants to help us develop Hurling in Tyrone and this first day aims to significantly increase the participation and enjoyment of playing and learning the game of hurling for children between the ages of 7 and 13 years of age. If we can do that then we’ve achieved something tangible and we hope eventually to have real foundations that can be built upon”.

Tyrone Hurling Officer Brendan Harkin is also pleased to be getting the first Hurling Development Day up and running. “The game of hurling is more than just a game. It’s something that is woven deeply into the social fabric of Irish people and that very much includes GAA people here in Tyrone. The Hurling Development day in Killyclogher on Saturday 12th May will offer U10’s from all clubs in Tyrone the opportunity to pick up a hurl and learn from two of Ireland’s greatest coaches. We’re delighted to have men of the calibre of Liam Sheedy, Paudie Butler and Damian Young involved”.

All GAA clubs in Tyrone are asked to inform their members of the event. The event is open to anyone in Tyrone with an interest in Hurling
